Home Insulation

NYTRM v13

Calculate annual energy and cost savings from adding wall, ceiling, rim joist, or floor insulation to reduce thermal conductance of the building envelope in New York State.

Location & Building
Used to determine heating/cooling degree days and climate zone
Used to estimate existing insulation R-values if not known
Component
Type of surface being insulated
Total area of insulated surface
Existing Insulation
Use default from building age or enter custom value
Quality affects effective R-value (derated for gaps)
New Insulation
Desired total R-value after insulation upgrade (e.g., R-49)
HVAC Systems
Does the home have electric air conditioning?
SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) from your AC unit's label. Higher = more efficient. Most units are 13-21.
Does the home have electric heating (heat pump or resistance)?
Does the home have gas or oil heating?
Type of fossil fuel for heating
AFUE (Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency) from your furnace label, usually 80-98%. Higher = more efficient.
